What is individual therapy?

Individual therapy is one-to-one work between you and a registered psychotherapist, usually in 50-minute sessions. It is the most common format therapy takes: a regular, private hour set aside to understand what is happening and to build practical ways through it.

There is no set curriculum. What you bring shapes what the sessions cover, and that changes over time as the work does.

Common ground

What people bring to individual therapy

Individual therapy is the format. What it is about is up to you, and every area this practice focuses on is available this way.

  • Anxiety, stress, burnout and the sense of running on empty
  • Relationship patterns, including work you would rather do on your own first
  • Health anxiety and the weight of managing an ongoing condition
  • Questions about identity, belonging and being fully yourself
  • Grief, transitions and the periods where nothing feels settled

Therapy is a space to pause and take an honest look

How sessions work

Sessions run 50 minutes. Most people start weekly and move to fortnightly as things steady, though there is no fixed schedule and no minimum number of sessions.

Work is virtual across Ontario, or in person at our Midtown Toronto locations. Many people mix the two. Sessions draw on cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness and somatic awareness, weighted towards whatever is actually useful to you rather than to a fixed protocol.

There is no waitlist and no referral is needed to see a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario.

What the first session is like

Before booking anything you have a free 15-minute consult. It exists to work out whether this is a fit, not to start the work, and there is no obligation to book afterwards.

The first full session is mostly about getting oriented: what brought you, what has already been tried, and what you want to be different. You set the pace of what you share. Nothing has to be explained tidily, and it is quite normal to arrive without a clear account of the problem.

No referral is needed to see a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario, and there is no waitlist.

Working alongside your other care

Therapy sits beside the rest of your care rather than replacing any of it. It does not diagnose medical conditions, interpret bloodwork or advise on medication.

Where you are already working with a family doctor, a specialist, a naturopath or a functional medicine practitioner, the work here takes the part that usually has nowhere else to go: the emotional weight of managing all of it. Flora sees clients in person at Bosnar Health, an integrative clinic, and has worked alongside naturopathic doctors for years.

How is individual therapy different from couples therapy?

The work is about you rather than a relationship between two people, so sessions can move at your pace and go wherever you need them to. A great deal of relationship work still happens here: understanding your own patterns, triggers and communication style changes how you show up with everyone, and many people start individually even when the concern is a relationship.

How much does individual therapy cost in Ontario?

Sessions with Flora are $170 for 50 minutes and sessions with Rosalia are $150. Psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP, but most extended health plans reimburse it and receipts are issued for every session. 5 sliding-scale places are held at $115 for clients who cannot meet the standard fee.

How long do people stay in individual therapy?

There is no set length and no minimum commitment. Some people come for a specific problem and finish in a few months; others stay longer or return at intervals as things change. Most start weekly and move to fortnightly as things steady. You are free to stop whenever you decide the work is done.

How do I know if individual therapy is right for me?

If something has been sitting with you long enough that you are reading this page, that is usually reason enough. You do not need a diagnosis, a referral, or a tidy explanation of the problem. The free 15-minute consult exists precisely so you can work out whether this is a fit before committing to anything.
